In BoTHS, we have two types of Chess Pieces that can be found in the game. They are:
Standard King
Role: The King is the most vital piece on the board and represents the player's monarch.
Movement: The King moves to any adjacent square, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Special Move: Castling is a unique move involving the King and Rook under certain conditions, providing a defensive maneuver.
Standard Queen
Role: The Queen is the most powerful piece, possessing the ability to control long ranges on the board.
Movement: The Queen can move horizontally, vertically, or diagonally across any number of unoccupied squares.
Versatility: Often referred to as the "chess powerhouse," the Queen combines the moves of both Rook and Bishop.
Standard Bishop
Role: Bishops are powerful diagonal movers, contributing to both offense and defense.
Movement: The Bishop moves diagonally across any number of unoccupied squares.
Standard Knight
Role: Knights are unique for their L-shaped jumps, providing a distinctive way to navigate the board.
Movement: Knights move in an L-shape, consisting of two squares in one direction and one square perpendicular to that.
Jumping Ability: Knights can bypass other pieces, making them effective at traversing crowded positions.
Standard Rook
Role: Rooks contribute to controlling ranks and files, offering long-range horizontal and vertical mobility.
Movement: The Rook moves horizontally or vertically across any number of unoccupied squares.
Castling Partner: Rooks play a crucial role in castling, the strategic move involving the King for safety and development.
Standard Pawn
Role: Pawns are the frontline soldiers, initially protecting and advancing toward promotion.
Movement: Pawns move forward one square but capture diagonally. On their first move, they have the option to advance two squares.
Promotion: Pawns can be promoted to any other piece (except a King) upon reaching the eighth rank.
